Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom)

This beautiful place of worship stands out as a gem in Berlin’s Museum Island and appears to flat on the canal below. With a history dating back to the 15th century it is well worth popping in to explore even if you aren’t religious. There is an audio guided device which can be purchased at the ticket counter before entering that goes over the history or the space, it’s catacombs, and different aspects of it’s impressive architecture. For a truly spectacular view of the city check out the views from the top dome. The church also puts on regular concerts and performances as well as regular church services on the weekend.

Nick hiked his way up to the viewing platform at the base of the dome. It was a ton of steps but offered a fantastic view of the city. It was also bitter cold out and rather than simply slinging his bag off his back to grab his gloves and hat – he walked the entire dome circumference and nearly froze his ears off. While he tired his legs on the stairs and froze, I sat around the museum floor to ponder all the architecture exhibits concerning the construction and methods they used to bid for building permits, permission, etc.
